The first shovel....

Sally looked up at the heavens and suddenly realized her lack of knowing about the cosmos mirrored her internal quandary of not understanding herself any more than she did all she gazed upon. She had so many dreams and ideas and possibilities that she often felt it was easier to think of nothing than to think of so much.
The hardest part really, she thought, was where to begin? She often envied those who had what she referred to as, “obvious talents”, for example the ability to sing or to play an instrument or even to have a lifelong interest in mathematics or some specialized area of science. Being a talented athlete, she believed, would or could create a destiny that surely wouldn’t leave one gazing hopelessly at the stars.
Sally knew she wasn’t alone. Many others of her ilk were struggling with the same dilemma, gifted with an array of talents and interests but seemingly not one jumping out ahead of all the rest.
She looked back up at the stars. Yes, there were the bright ones, obviously the ones knowing early on who they were, allowing them to focus all their energy in shining brilliantly. Never having to spend copious amounts of time wandering from mountain to forest to ocean in search of the one light that would direct them on their path.
Why, she wondered in her most curious thinking, were some people gifted with knowing which way to go while others had to fling themselves about in such odd and strange fashions seemingly no wiser in their direction from one venture to the next?
Just as Sally was about to take one of her abbreviated sighs she recalled a special moment when she encountered a Spirit called The Ally of Death. It wasn’t scary, in fact quite the opposite. She remembered being surrounded by ancient stones from another time and dimension which held a wisdom only now emerging to tireless Seekers. The air was hot and dry and the sounds silent to her ears. She recalled releasing her attachments to everything she could think of as she came closer and closer to the one who would see deep into her soul.

Burning tears rolled down her cheeks when she and The Ally met. In that moment Sally no longer knew who she was. In fact her mind had a vacancy that she never experienced, more empty even than when she thought about nothing.
A small voice within her cautiously spoke, “I don’t know who I am”?
The Ally, whose deep knowing sapphire eyes looked back at Sally spoke, “You are who you always were.....Love!”
With that Sally burst into a flood of tears for never had more tender words been spoken to her. Sally closed her eyes for a moment holding tightly the memory of that moment. What if, she pondered, she could bring back the memory, the feeling, the truth of that instant and infuse it so deep inside her that it would be there all the time, well maybe if not 100% of the time, much much more time than it was now.

And, if that happened, how, Sally queried, could that change her life and would that illuminate her path in some way she wasn’t yet able to conceive, and would that then also bring her to the next step with a confidence that that step was not a mis-step and that right now she wouldn’t have to think or imagine anything beyond just that one thing?
Sally released a gargantuan sigh.
To be continued.....
In today’s world so many women are waking up internally which can quite often emerge as a feeling or yearning there has to be something more to life than what they are living. For me that happened almost 2 decades ago which catapulted me on a journey to look for something I had no way of defining and wasn’t sure when I found it, if there was even an “it” that I would know what it was.
Since then I have met hundreds of women in workshops, retreats, mystery schools, graduate courses, seminars, academies, etc., from around the world and in many places in the world that have experienced the same thing.
There are numerous situations we can point to that have brought us to this moment but my focus over the next series of blogs is to cut to the chase.
At some point there is a realization that the journey we are on is a spiritual journey and at that point we find ourselves inside a maze, not knowing quite sure how we got there and then we often experience the trampoline effect of the highs and lows of joyous discovery followed by the loss of feeling we haven’t quite captured what we thought we held so tightly.
Over the last 20 years I have had the great honour and privilege to study in person under many scholars and mystics, shaman and best selling authors. It is my intent to set a stage through the character of Sally, whereby I can pave a path through the maze for those interested either in what a spiritual journey can look like and some of the dead-ends we can encounter.
As Sally begins her story she is in a state of confusion, not an uncommon experience on today’s road, and feels she doesn’t understand herself anymore than she can comprehend the cosmos. She wishes she had it easier and thinks that is the case for some other people because she is in a position where she wants to become something more than her perceived limitations. Involved in her spiritual studies which encompasses many avenues, she now desires to formulate all that she has learned into serving others in a creative and unique to her way.
Wanting to create her own destiny she finds in some ways she is still very much like she was years before; unsure of what that is going to look like but feeling compelled to move forward anyway.
When I did my 2 year study with Dr. Claire Zammit of Feminine Power notoriety, Claire would say...
we are women on the edge of evolution. What we are stepping into has not been done before so we can’t look to our past and say, this is what so and so did, so all we need to do is follow their path.
No. Our challenge at this point in our history, as Claire often said, "is to build the plane while we are flying it."

In the past we would see in movies those funny signs that had about a dozen or so different directions on them all with various place names. Sometimes this feels like where we are standing now. I also know that in order to go anywhere we have to begin by excavating our own lives because until we know who we are we will just bumble along never quite sure if the steps we are taking are the ones we are meant to step onto.
Sally in her state of confusion has a memory about a meeting she had with the Ally of Death, also called in some cultures the Angel of Death. That memory is a metaphor for her taking a shovel and turning over the soil as one would do when they begin to excavate.
Through these blogs we will till the soil together and Sally will show some of the barriers and pitfalls that can happen on our journey but also some of the sure footed steps that can lead us out of the maze where we can often find our true self and our path forward.
I would love to hear from anyone who can relate to what I have mentioned so far or anyone too, who may just be starting to feel that there is indeed a need or yearning in their life for “something more”.
Blessings,
